Upcoming Event, Asian Occasion.

On November 19, 2011, the University of Albany Asian American Alliance (AAA) will hold its annual event “Asian Occasion.” This year’s “Asian Occasion” starts at 7 p.m. at Page Hall on the downtown campus. This year’s “Asian Occasion” show will be hosted by the Asian American Alliance and put together by all the AOC student organizations and Asian-interest Greek organizations.

The AAA was founded at University at Albany in 1992 for the betterment of Asian American students. It is a social, cultural and political organization that serves as a coordinator for five Asian organizations on campus: the Albany State Indian Alliance (ASIA), the Chinese Student Association (CSA), the Japanese Student Association (JSA), the Korean Student Association (KSA), Liga Filipina (LIGA).

The AAA president, Eva Shhiih posted on AAA website that they hope to promote Asian unity through a positive showcase.

The Korean Student Association president, Haerim Lee said, “I think the past events have been good. Last year, the turnout and profit from the event was really good. We will showcase Asian nation’s own culture on the stage and I expect a good turn out this year too,” and she added, “There has been a decrease in the actual amount or quality of traditional cultural events in the years past, but hopefully that’s something that won’t be too big a problem this year.” Last year, it has had over 400 people in attendance.

AAA will be tabling throughout the week of November 7 to 10 and again on from November 14 to 17 at the UAlbany Campus Center tables. Also, it will be taking requests through facebook or text, Eva Shhiih, AAA president. Advance show ticket is $10 and the ticket at the door is $15. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
