Tucked away on Madison Avenue in the student ghetto lies a family run Asian restaurant. Ruby Asian Bistro houses delicious Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian cuisine at reasonable prices

Ruby also houses a fantastic sushi bar well below the competitor’s prices. On any given day Ruby’s is full of college students getting their sushi fix. On weekdays Ruby is opened until 11 and weekends, midnight and students are walking in until the last minute.

In addition to the various types of Asian foods, Ruby also specializes in bubble tea, a drink that consists of flavored milk tea and fruit teas with tapioca pearls at the bottom. Bubble tea attracts hordes of college students wanting a Starbucks like drink without the hefty price tag.

Ruby’s lunch specials are the main attraction. For 10 dollars you can get the Maki Triple, three sushi rolls, soup, and a salad. You can’t find a deal like that anywhere else. If the prices don’t pull you in, the food will.

The sushi is delicate and fresh. Their tuna is well marbled and a deep reddish pink color. It doesn’t have the fishy aftertaste most cheap sushi places have. Most Asian restaurants will only offer the basic rolls for their specials, but Ruby offers intricate roll that goes beyond the California and vegetable rolls.

The Miami roll has tuna, cucumber, and Panko breading, all while being smothered in sweet chili sauce and a soft wasabi mayo concoction. Typically this kind of roll will run well into ten dollars at any normal sushi place.

Although most college students are (or at least should be) in class during their lunch special hours, Ruby offers student special. If you show your college I.D. when ordering, the lunch specials could be yours any time of the day.

In addition to their delicious and fresh sushi, their entrees are filling and full of flavor. Their entrees vary from typical Lo Mein, to complex flavors like Indonesian curry chicken. All of their entrees come with a four-piece California roll and Gyoza. Prices for entrees vary from 5 dollars to 9, but are always student sensitive.

If you’re in the Pine Hills area, stop by Ruby and try the variety of food offered at a reasonable price.
